THERE we were, all looking forward to what the press release promised was an "indoor dark boar ride", when news comes from Chatham Maritime that it all has to be cancelled - or at least put back by six weeks. Dickens World had been due to open yesterday, complete with Europe's longest indoor boat ride on what used to be derelict dockland. This would have taken us from Newgate Prison, past Quilps Creek, through a smelly sewer and across the rooftops of London, before tumbling down the Fall of Death to catch up with Magwitch on the Kent Marshes. .
Generic Theater pulls off oldies but goodies
Time Passages: 25 Years of Generic Theater Six One-Act Plays summarizes the companys current production at the Players Ring quite nicely. GT opted to present a mix of one-acts for its 25 anniversary, in homage to the early years when the company regularly offered an evening of shorts. And a mix it is, of old and new, short and long, strong and shaky, pro and community. Its summary? A very worthwhile, intriguing affair. All the selections have a touch or full-blown absurd bent. Casts range from a single person to 10. Come and Go felt mere minutes long, while Man in the Mask took up a reasonable chunk of the second half of the evening. The remaining pieces include Philip Glass Buys a Loaf of Bread by David Ives, Adjusting by Jeff Sweet, This is the Rill Speaking by Lanford Wilson and a monologue from Talking With called Lamps by Jayne Martin.
CA puts off ruling on mayors’ motions
MAYOR Thadeo Ouano began serving yesterday his preventive suspension, as the appeals court put off acting on his and Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Arturo Radazas bid to stay in office while being investigated.
Regional Director Rene Burdeos of the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) 7, assistant regional director Pedro Noval and legal officer Danilo Almendras arrived at the Mandaue City Hall past 10 a.m. and delivered Ouanos six-month preventive suspension order.
